Substance Use Disorders in the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgendered Populations

Substance use disorders are a prevalent problem among LGBT, and traditional approaches to treatment may not be as effective in LGBT patients. This symposium will provide an overview of specific considerations in the evaluation and treatment of substance use disorders among LGBT, focusing on specific and practical recommendations on improving treatment outcomes. Pharmacotherapy of alcohol use disorders and motivational interviewing techniques will also be presented by two experts in these fields. Nicotine dependence will be specifically addressed, as a growing public health problem in LGBT.

The CME will be administered by the CA Society of Addiction Medicine (CSAM) and will be available at 3.75hrs.
